Women's Day Celebration

International Women's Day is celebrates the world over, every year on the eight day of March. It celebrates womanhood and pays tribute to the indomitable spirit of women across the globe.

Its root lies in the early 1900s when oppression and inequality was spurring women to become more vocal and active in campaigning for change.

The basic unit of society is a woman. As woman makes a family, family makes a home and hoe make a society. So, one should never think that a society would come into existence without the contribution of women. A good healthy society doesn't automatically emerge on its own and stands firm. It need to be emerged and for its emergence women play a pivotal role.

Women down the ages were not given their due respects yet they went on without complaints. Women since time immemorial had powers to bring a change. Women fought with all odds to emerge as a winner.

Women now are more empowered and aware of their rights and the society has accepted their stand. The society is changing and paving way for the growth of the women. The changes can be seen in the fields of education, healthcare, equality and job opportunity. The new decade has seen a marked change in attitude towards women at large. Though, women have made strides in every field like politics, space exploration.

Even today, women in rural India are deprived of their rights. Various social taboos are present in the society. They are illiterates. They face hardships in their day-to-day life. As ‘invisible workers’ they contribute a lot to household activities as well as other outer activities, instead they are dominated by their spouses in all the aspects. They face problems in every sphere of their lives. It is necessary to create awareness and enlighten them.

On behalf of Rehab India Foundation, International women’s day was celebrated in Holagunda village with National Women’s Front Holagunda regional committee. The programme was inaugurated by NWF Andhra Pradesh State General Secretary Mrs. Thahirunnissa. She enlightened the gathering on the importance of women empowerment in our modern society and also described the importance of women education in this contemporary society.

Rehab India Foundation’s South zone Field Officer Mr.MuhammedYasir, Holagunda Islamic School principal Mrs. Asma Parveen, Holagunda PHC Head Nurse Mrs.Aruna, Holagunda MPTC Mrs. Hafiza Tabassum, and Rehab India Foundation’s Holagunda village coordinator, Mr. Abdul Hameed were also present in the programme. Total 264 ladies attended the programme. The programme we concluded with distribution of sweets.

The social fabric has acquired completely new dimensions. The women are considered less powerful and important than men yet situation is not entirely bleak. Thanks to the efforts of government, NGOs, social welfare organizations and many such institutions, there has been a drastic improvement. Many private corporate bodies have also taken a keen interest in improving the economic status of women and the results are extremely encouraging. Pundit Jawaharlal Nehru had once said, “You can tell the condition of a nation by looking at the status of its women”. How true! We completely subscribe to this belief and steps are on its way to further improve the condition of rural women in India.
