Vision Screening Campaign in Assam

Everyone has the right to a standard of living adequate for the health and well-being of himself and of his family, including food, clothing, housing and medical care. Access to health care and equitable distribution of health services are the fundamental requirements. Many backward and remote areas in our country lack basic health care infrastructure limiting access to health services at present. A large number of people in rural areas are unable to seek medical help due to variety of economic and social problems. “The groundwork of all happiness is good health”. Basic health care and health assurance seem to be a distant dream for underprivileged people. Eyesight is one of the most important and valued senses we have. Eye examinations are an important part of health maintenance for everyone regardless of age or physical health.

625 million people around the world are avoidably vision impaired or blind because they don’t have access to eye care. At some point in our life need of vision correction is necessary. The simple fact is that by around 45 years old, every person in the world begins to experience the need for vision correction as their eyes naturally age.

Acknowledging the road to provide necessary eye care, Rehab India Foundation joined hands with Fakoruddin Ali Ahamed Hospital organized Free Vision Screening campaign in the Rehab Model Village, Bongaigaon of Assam on 14.10.2014. Dr. (Mr) Banerjee, Eye Specialist, examined the patients and provided his excellent service. More than 60 villagers got their eyes examined and were advices on post check-up surgery. The beneficiaries of the Camp are now eligible for free surgeries in Fakoruddin Ali Ahamed Hospital situated in Barpeta, Assam.

The programme was successfully coordinated by Mr. Sadagar Ali, Field Officer, MSW Final year student of Rehab India Foundation.

Needless to say, this was indeed a great opportunity for the underprivileged in our area of operations, which forms part of our Social Upliftment Programme.

This initiative of the Rehab India Foundation go a long way in enhancing out-reach of medical services to the remotest areas. We, the team of Rehab India Foundation, stand to achieve our goal. Empowering people throughout the backward and rural region to reach out and improve their standard of living with our best possible services and support. We take pride in that.

Loan Distribution in Delhi

“There is no tool for development more effective than empowerment”. Empowerment enables the people of our community to increase control over their lives and shape their life for better. The most distressing feature of our social system is that we have at present, great disparities in incomes and lifestyles. On one hand we have millionaires and billionaires. On the other hand, we have teeming millions who cannot make both ends meet and a weak economic condition.

The people from the rural areas are moving to urban areas with the expectations that they can find their sustenance. But, their anticipation and reality are not same.

Understanding the problems faced by the destitute people Rehab India Foundation is providing them Interest free loan. “Give a man a fish and you feed him for a day. Teach a man to fish and you feed him for a lifetime” is a famous Chinese proverb with which the significance of self-employment and self empowerment can well be perceived.

On 29.10.2014, Loan Distribution ceremony was held by Rehab India Foundation, in the Head Office Rehab situated in Delhi, organized by Mr. Nur Alam, Field Officer. Mr. Rasheed Akhwan (SDPI National Committee Member) and Mr. Ansaar (Delhi State President, Popular Front) were invited as Chief Guest. A total amount of Rs. 65,000/- was disbursed among 6 beneficiaries. A beneficiary was given a Cycle Rickshaw.

Mr. Syed Anwar (MCJ COORDINATOR, RIF), Mr. Rahoof (Finance Manager, RIF) Mr. Md Azam Tahir (Account Assistant, RIF) Mr Jiaul and Mr Kamal uddin were present during the ceremony.

Previously, they were not able to cope up with the world. As they are illiterates they were not able to find occupation which can enable them to earn enough for themselves and for their families; they were not able to end the hunger of their children. They were leading a marginal and miserable life. They were economically weak. With this aid, we tackled the root cause of poverty so that they will be able to support themselves and their families.

Our country can hold head up high only when there is full employment and good standard of living. Rehab India Foundation is working towards strengthening the livelihoods of poor and marginal groups and developing a sustainable environment by empowering them.

These interest free loans are given to the deserving people of underprivileged society. Instead of worrying about getting a job and low salary, with this they are able to support themselves and their families.

We single out the most deserving people and help them to start up their own business with which they can earn a living through their own labor and small business. They can be self reliant and can support their family economically. They organize to build their own strength and meet challenges.

We work to bring changes in the lives of underprivileged people. These initiatives of the Rehab India Foundation go a long way in enhancing the lives of people in rural areas. We, the team of Rehab India Foundation, stand to achieve our goal of promoting development and sustainable livelihoods empowering people throughout the backward and rural region to reach out and improve their standard of living with our best possible services and support.

In order to provide social and psychological support and the necessary knowledge and information about the disease, Rehab India Foundation organized Tuberculosis Awareness Campaign. Tuberculosis is more common than we may actually think. About one-third of the world’s population is currently infected with Tuberculosis, with one new infection occurring every second.

India has approximately two to three million people infected by Tuberculosis and was the highest TB burden country with World Health Organization (WHO) statistics for 2011. The campaign was conducted by Dr. (Mr) H. Sarkar (D.T.O) and Dr. (Mr) Bishwajit Roy (S.T.S) from Bongaigaon Civil Hospital, Bongaigaon of Assam.

The main objective of the awareness campaign was to advert to this public health problem and provide the public with the necessary information and knowledge about tuberculosis. The Doctors also explained the rural folks of diagnosing the diseases earlier so that it can be treated soon and can be halted from spreading further.

Even though our government is taking all the efficient steps to prevent the diseases and improve the health care of the people, all the schemes and strategies introduced by the government is not reaching the people living in the remotest areas of our country.

Pundit Nehru on knowing the importance of education to children of our country included and highlighted the point in his five years plan that every child in India would get free and compulsory primary education. Over thousands of schools were built throughout the villages of India when he was in power.

In the present situation of our country, we cannot hide the fact that many children in India are not getting basic privileges like education. Many children are earning money instead of playing with toys.

Children's Day celebration is the tribute to childhood. John Kennedy, 35th US president has quoted it rightly, “Children are the world's most valuable resource and its best hope for the future”.

The true essence of children's day is to understand the significance of childhood and support the children with what they actually need in their life. Rehab India Foundation is striving hard to support the children and working towards creating child friendly society, where all children are free from exploitation and receive quality education.
