REHAB INDIA FOUNDATION: Calamity Relief Programme Phase-V: Rehabilitation of Assam Calamity Victims

Aboobacker Chairman Rehab India Foundation inaugurated the Vth Phase (Rehabilitation of Assam calamity victims) of Assam Calamity Relief Programme by presenting a copy of Annual Report 2012-13 to Pankaj Choudhury, District Project Officer of Disaster Management Department Bongaigoan at Nauchunguri-3 Village of Hapasara Gram Panchayat in Manikpur Block, Bongaigoan, Assam on Sunday July 7th, 2013 at 4.00 pm.

Guwahati: To give shelter for the victims of natural calamity and ethnic violence Rehab India Foundation inaugurated the 5th phase of their Rehab Model Village at Hapasara Gram Panchayat in Bongaigoan district, Assam

Altogether, four villages have been identified for Village Development and Rehabilitation Programme. The selected villages are Jounamma Camp at Kokarjar District, Paataimari at Chiranj, Solmari and another Village at Bongaigoan District.

“At Rehab India Foundation, we see ourselves in the lives of every individual impacted by our work. Assam Model Village is one of the dream projects of Rehab that reflects equality and justice for all. This is the village which built with the vision that everyone should be educationally sound, access to health and employment opportunities for all. Same model, we will replicate in the selected four villages to start Rehabilitation Programme. We will touch all the necessary aspects such as education, health and economic development,” E. Aboobacker, Chairman Rehab India Foundation.

Under this project, Rehab India aim to provide low cost houses, education, medical aid, income generation and employment oriented programmes.

In addition, he also shares his experience that after meeting with flood and right hit victims how he planned to initiate programmes at Assam. He included that at present Rehab is running development projects in nine States; Delhi, Rajsthan, U.P, Bihar, Assam, West Bengal, Manipur, Andhra Pradesh and Tamil Nadu.

“Dear sisters and brothers we apologize that at the last moment we have to change the venue of the programme as our Village is flooded by Aiye River”, said E. Aboobacker Chairman Rehab India Foundation at inaugural function of Assam Calamity Relief Programme.

Four villages have been identified to rehabilitate the victims of Assam under Phase Vth of Calamity Relief Programme. The selected villages are Joyma Camp at Kokrajhar, Patalimari Village at Chiranj, Salmari Colony and Jaraguri Villages at Bongaigoan District.

Eminent dignitaries of Rehab India Foundation such as E. Aboobacker Chairman Rehab, Afsel Chandrakandy General Secretary, and two Secretaries; Hafiz Rashid Ahmed Choudhury and Remiz Muhammed present on the occasion.

Mr. Aboobacker said, “We are in deep sorrow that our 11000 brothers are still missing at Badrinath, Uttarakhand. May God give strength and courage to our sisters and brothers who lost their family members in flash floods and land slide. To add to it, Mahatma Gandhi told that the best way to find yourself is to lose yourself in the service of others. At Rehab India Foundation, we see ourselves in the lives of every individual impacted by our work. Mr. Pankaj Choudhury says, “I am unable to express my happiness in words that how effectively Rehab India Foundation has been working in Assam. The role of NGO is very vital in maintaining peace and harmony and Rehab is one of the genuine examples of it.”

Next speech was delivered by Adv. Hafiz Rashid Ahmed Choudhury. He narrated Rehab journey in Assam from Assam Model Village to Flood Relief and Calamity Relief Programme. He told, ‘Few years back, the condition of people was worse. We observe silence and deep pain but now things are improving. We are observing slow change. When we started Educare Centre at Model Village, the initial strength of students was 20 and now exceeds 120.”

Abdul Basher, Professor at Nagar Bera College briefly explained all the projects of Rehab India Foundation at Assam, while Abdul Batin shared yearly activity report.

While giving vote of thanks to all the dignitaries, media and 721 participants, Afsel Chandrakandy said, “Rehab has successfully completed 4 Phases of Assam Calamity Relief Project. In four phases, we provided relief material to flood and riot hit victims who were sheltering in refugee camps. Rehab Team actively distributed emergency material like food packets, garments, utensils, polythene bags, medicines etc. On Bakra Eid, we distributed Qurbani Food Kits to 45585 individuals.”

Last but not least, Team Rehab, Guests, media and all the participants ended the programme with National Anthum.
